LAHORE MIRROR — US State Department’s spokesperson Matthew Miller has unequivocally denied any involvement in a conspiracy against the former prime minister and PTI Chairman, aimed at removing him from power.
Speaking during a press briefing in Washington, Miller dismissed the allegations directed towards the US concerning Pakistan as baseless and destined to remain so.
When questioned about reports from foreign media suggesting the existence of a confidential cable wherein the US purportedly pressured Pakistan to depose the PTI chief, Miller opted not to comment on the alleged cable. He clarified that discussions of private conversations with Pakistani diplomats were not within the realm of public discussion.
Miller further emphasized that the recently surfaced documents did not offer evidence to support the notion that the United States had meddled in the selection of a Pakistani leader. These claims were also refuted by the former Pakistani ambassador.
Addressing concerns over the former prime minister’s visit to Moscow coinciding with Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Miller acknowledged that the US had expressed apprehensions regarding the timing of the visit. He affirmed that these concerns had been conveyed clearly.
In response to a query, Miller affirmed that the United States places great importance on its relationship with Pakistan, particularly in the context of counterterrorism efforts.
