Punjab Food Authority Observes World Food Day

LAHORE– To mark the 16th of October – World Food Day under the theme 2019 “Healthy Diets for a #Zerohunger World”, the Punjab Food Authority in cooperation with Unique Group of Institutions organized a mega event at Alhamra Cultural Complex, Qaddafi Stadium Lahore on Wednesday.

Punjab Food Minister Samiullah Chaudhry and Provincial Minister for Health Dr Yasmin Rashid were grace the event. On that occasion, Senator Waleed Iqbal, PFA Director General Captain (retired) Muhammad Usman, Additional Director Generals, PFA’s board members, and prominent dignitaries were present.

A large number of students, food technologists and people from all walks of life were also present.

The participants of the event highly appreciated PFA for arranging a wonderful event for them. They said that such events play a vital role to guide the nation, meet the current issues and motivate to people for doing work for a noble cause.

They have much-admired PFA for launching its own magazine for the betterment of this society.

PFA also set up nutrition camps for public awareness and provided free of cost consultancy to visitors. While the authority also launched its ‘PFA Magazine’ purpose is to guide people and spread awareness about nutrition and food-related issues in society through the power of the pen.

Muhammad Usman said that the authority would utilize all available resources and continue its struggle for the prosperity of this country and the food industry.

He has urged to consume a healthy diet and avoid junk food and ready-made products because food processed at homes is harmless and more hygienic than that available in markets.

He further stated that PFA is running an awareness campaign to control the nutritional issues among people along with established nutrition clinics across Punjab.

Samiullah Chaudhry said that the role of PFA to curb the adulteration mafia is remarkable. He stated that Muhammad Usman is fighting with adulterators and counterfeiters as an iron man by rooting out their hidden production units of food.

Dr Yasmin Rashid has appreciated PFA for promoting the healthy food business culture in Punjab. She further stated that PFA is a role model for other provinces. Both minister and audience have congratulated the Punjab Food Authority for launching PFA Magazine.

The FAO Pakistan Country Programming Framework (CPF) 2018-2022 has set out the development priorities for collaboration with Pakistan.

According to priorities “The CPF has three priority areas which are Zero Hunger: healthy, safe and nutritious food for all, climate smart resilient agriculture and sustainable ecosystems including forests, fisheries, livestock, rangeland and water management and inclusive and efficient agriculture and food systems.

The framework was formulated through extensive consultations with the federal and provincial governments and institutions.  It will cover the period 2018-2022 aligned with the priorities of the government and the UN planning cycle OPIII”.

At the end, the Minister and DG PFA distributed the medals as a token of appreciation to members who have served with loyalty and dedication.
