LAHORE MIRROR — In a bid to combat electricity theft across Pakistan, the Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (FESCO) has initiated a reward program, encouraging citizens to provide information on illicit power usage.

The introduction of this cash reward system in the country’s third most populous city is motivated by a dual purpose: to bolster revenue and to staunch the losses incurred through illegal activities.

Reports indicate that the decision to offer rewards received approval from the Board of Governors of FESCO.

Under this program, individuals who report instances of electricity theft will receive a reward equivalent to one percent of the total recovery amount. Simultaneously, FESCO’s enforcement teams will also become eligible for rewards for successfully identifying and apprehending culprits.

FESCO officials have affirmed their commitment to safeguarding the identities of those reporting electricity theft, ensuring the security and privacy of the general populace.

As the crackdown on power theft gains traction nationwide, hundreds of individuals have been apprehended. Pakistan faces annual losses of approximately Rs589 billion due to electricity theft and non-payment of bills. Consequently, enforcement measures will be targeted in areas where losses exceed 60 percent, encompassing 2,085 feeders.
