LAHORE MIRROR — Huawei continues to impress with its latest smartphone release, the Mate X5, which takes the reins from its predecessor, the Mate X3. While the exterior design remains familiar, Huawei has packed significant upgrades beneath the surface.

Design and Display

The Mate X5 retains its striking 7.85-inch LTPO OLED primary display, boasting a resolution of 2,224 x 2,496 pixels. Additionally, it sports a 6.4-inch LTPO OLED cover display with a resolution of 1,080 x 2,504 pixels, both fortified with the robust Kunlun Glass for protection.

One noteworthy innovation is the introduction of Huawei’s Lingxi antenna, equipped with an AI algorithm that intelligently selects the best network for enhanced connectivity. The strategically placed antennas along the device’s frame incorporate dual-mode tuning technology, further elevating signal quality. Moreover, the Mate X5 boasts an IPX8 waterproof rating and offers support for two-way BeiDou satellite messaging within China.

Internals and Software

Under the hood, the Mate X5 delivers robust performance, offering a staggering 16 GB of RAM and up to 1 TB of storage. While Huawei hasn’t officially confirmed the chipset, multiple reports from China suggest it may be powered by the same Kirin 9000s SoC featured in the recently released Mate 60 series. This chipset is speculated to support 5G connectivity and is built on SMIC’s advanced 7nm process technology.

Running on Harmony OS 4, the Mate X5 introduces innovative air gesture controls, enabling users to navigate through videos, webpages, and images without touching the main display.

Cameras

The rear camera setup on the Mate X5 showcases a refined design while maintaining the same camera configuration. It includes a potent 50MP primary camera with an impressive f/1.8 aperture, complemented by a 13MP f/2.2 ultrawide camera and a 12MP f/3.4 periscope module boasting 5x optical zoom.

With the Mate X5, Huawei continues its tradition of pushing boundaries in smartphone technology, offering consumers a blend of familiar design and cutting-edge internals.

Battery and Pricing

In addition to these advancements, the Mate X5 boasts a larger 5,060 mAh battery with support for 66W wired charging, 50W wireless charging, and 7.5W reverse wireless charging.

In terms of color options, the Mate X5 introduces a Phantom Purple variant, which joins the existing choices of Feather White, Feather Black, Feather Gold, and Green Mountain that were also available for the Mate X3.

Pricing details are yet to be revealed.
