LAHORE: A fire broke out at the gynecology ward of Lahore General Hospital, prompting an immediate response from Rescue 1122 teams.
According to initial reports, the fire was caused by a short circuit in electrical wiring installed in the ceiling of the gynecology ward. The incident caused smoke to spread throughout the ward.
Rescue teams reached the hospital shortly after receiving the emergency alert and successfully brought the fire under control.
Around 70 people, including pregnant women, were safely evacuated from the ward as a precautionary measure.
During the incident, a security guard reportedly fell ill after being exposed to smoke. He was shifted to the hospital’s emergency department, where he is receiving medical treatment.
Hospital administration said the security guard’s condition is out of danger.
Officials said the fire was brought under control in time and no loss of life was reported. The administration also confirmed that the situation at the hospital had been brought under control following the rescue operation.

The Lahore incident comes shortly after another fire-related incident was reported in Islamabad, raising fresh concerns about fire safety and emergency preparedness in public facilities.
Authorities in both cities have repeatedly emphasized the importance of proper electrical maintenance, fire-safety measures and rapid emergency response, particularly in buildings where large numbers of people are present.
The latest incident at Lahore General Hospital has also renewed questions about the condition of electrical wiring and fire-safety arrangements in hospitals, where patients—including pregnant women and other vulnerable individuals—may face serious risks during emergencies.
