ATC Judge Abul Hasanat Zulqarnain approved their bail against surety bonds of Rs5,000 each after police presented the case record before the court.
The case was registered at Islamabad’s Kohsar Police Station on charges of interfering with official duties.
The development comes a week after the lawyer couple was sentenced to 10 years in prison each in a separate case involving an alleged security breach during the visit of an international cricket team to Pakistan in October 2024.
The case was registered at Aabpara Police Station under the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA), 1997. The court also imposed fines of Rs100,000 on each defendant.
According to the court order, the couple received two-year prison sentences under Section 353 and one-year sentences under Section 186, along with fines of Rs50,000 under each provision. The court also extended the benefit of Section 382 to the defendants.
Mazari and Chattha were indicted in the case on October 7 in the case registered on October 25, 2024.
Previous Arrests and Legal Proceedings
The couple has remained in custody since January 23, following their arrest in a case related to a protest outside the Islamabad High Court.
A day after their arrest, a sessions court sentenced them to a combined 17 years in prison on multiple charges under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA), in connection with controversial social media posts.
On September 17, the Supreme Court suspended their sentences in the social media case and granted them bail against surety bonds of Rs200,000 each, pending a final decision by the Islamabad High Court.
However, they were rearrested by Islamabad police just hours after securing the relief and subsequently produced before an anti-terrorism court.
According to the FIR, the couple was accused of chanting antigovernmental slogans and blocking roads during a protest.
The latest bail order concerns the separate police altercation case and does not automatically affect their detention or proceedings in other cases.
