Restaurant Owners Should Not Allow Sidewalks And Corridors to be Paved: Laiq

KARACHI– Administrator Karachi Laiq Ahmed has said that no goods or construction of any kind can be allowed on sidewalks, green belts, and corridors. Restaurant owners should ensure that they do not allow sidewalks and corridors to be paved.
In the wider interest of the city, coordination and cooperation between the business community and local bodies are essential, he said while talking to a delegation of All Pakistan Restaurant Association headed by Patron-in-Chief Shaukat Umarson.
The delegation included District East Coordinator Solija, Legal Aid Coordinator Umar Khan, former Chairman Waqas Azeem, and others while Senior Director Coordination Khalid Khan was also present on the occasion.
Expressing concern over the sudden action taken against hotels and restaurants which result in loss of food items in their stocks which resulted in the loss of millions of rupees, he requested that action be taken by the concerned department.
He said that placing gas cylinders and generators in the interior of the restaurant could lead to major accidents, so these items should be allowed to be kept in the outer part of the restaurant. KMC used to issue land utilization challan earlier which is now closed, Administrator Karachi Laiq Ahmed said that there are orders of the Supreme Court regarding encroachments on public places including sidewalks, these are places of public use where any kind of equipment or construction is not allowed.
The restaurant association should take care of this, he said, adding that the institutions and individuals involved in the restaurant and hotel business should look into the matter themselves so that the citizens are not inconvenienced by keeping their goods outside.
Local bodies provide basic services to the citizens in which maintenance of infrastructure is of central importance. Roads, green belts, and sidewalks will be clean and free from encroachments.
It will look cleaner and better, so all civic bodies should look for it “We do not want anyone’s business to be harmed or the business community to be affected by any action, but it requires the cooperation of businesses and institutions providing local government services,” he said.
He assured the delegation that the issues raised by them would be fully considered and steps would be taken to enable restaurant owners to run their business with satisfaction.
