KARACHI– Administrator Karachi Laiq Ahmed has said that the expansion joints of the Nagan Chowrangi flyover were in bad condition due to which there was a risk of accidents so they are being repaired on a priority basis and made usable where necessary. Joints will also be replaced there.
Work is also underway to fix the lights on the expressway to facilitate the traffic passing through here at night. The Karachi Metropolitan Municipality is carrying out infrastructure maintenance work with its own resources. The aim is to improve roads and highways, he said while reviewing the ongoing works under the Engineering Department of the Karachi Metropolitan Municipality in different areas of the city.
Administrator Karachi directed Director General Works Shabiha Al Hasnain Zaidi that the expansion joints of all flyovers should be inspected and wherever repairs or alterations are required, immediate machinery and staff should be deployed, he said, adding that light and heavy vehicles continue to play on the Nagan Chowrangi flyover 24 hours a day.
Therefore, the repair work should be done in such a way that the expansion joints of Liaquatabad Flyover and Gharibabad Bridge have been replaced earlier after which the flow of traffic has improved. He said that with the smoothing of the road surface, the travel time has been significantly reduced. He said that similar facilities would be provided on roads, bridges, and flyovers in every part of the city.
Infrastructure maintenance works are being carried out using resources, field teams of Works Department are also working in different areas, lights were not working in many places on the expressway due to darkness at night. We were facing difficulties because the speed of vehicles here is also very fast.
Therefore, repair work of all the lights has been started here which will be completed as soon as possible. Earlier, the lights on many roads of the city the roads have been made functional which has made them brighter. Other roads are also being made brighter and cleaner.
