Utility Service Providers Should Provide Better Facilities To Citizens In Their Daily Life: Laiq Ahmed

KARACHI– Administrator Karachi Laiq Ahmed has said that utility service providers should adopt a joint strategy to provide facilities to the citizens in their daily life. The Metropolitan Municipality is introducing one window operation in Karachi so that all related works can be done in one go. A better working relationship between the agencies involved in the provision of local government services and the agencies involved in the provision of utility services will not only resolve mutual issues but also speed up the improvement and development of the city. The Karachi Metropolitan Municipality is playing its due role in this regard and is in full touch with other important institutions of the city which will show the best results in the future, he said in his office on Wednesday.
Addressing the signing ceremony of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between MC and K Electric, Amir Zia, Chief Distribution Officer of K Electric, Director Haider Ali, Haris Siddiqui, General Manager Farid Ahmed, Senior Director Coordination KMC Khalid Khan, Legal Adviser Azra Muqeem, Director General Works Shabiha Al Hassan Zaidi, Chief Engineer E&M Abdul Ghaffar, Abbas Ali Shah, Director Estate Imran Siddiqui, Director Accommodation Muhammad Matin, and other concerned officers were also present. The Administrator Karachi said (MoU) is a positive and useful development and we hope that we will move forward soon and all issues will be resolved amicably, payment of electricity bills through a committee comprising representatives of KMC and K Electric, individual Installation of meters, and other mutual issues will be resolved. We want a full working relationship with K-Electric. As a first step, progress has been made on uncomplicated matters, after which other issues will also be settled through mutual cooperation, he said that the interests of KMC will be protected at all costs, we want to complete this work as soon as possible so that the interests of the Karachi Metropolitan Municipality and illegal activities can be stopped completely, on the Memorandum of Understanding to the Karachi Metropolitan Municipality.
Imtiaz Ali Abro, Senior Director, State, while K Electric, Director Haider Ali signed the agreement under which the Karachi Metropolitan Municipality will provide a list of new or additional electricity connections required for government houses, flats, shops, offices, and other places under its administration, while KMC will provide a list of new or additional electricity connections. Individual meters will be installed in residential flats, the bill of which will be paid by the residents themselves. The installation will be completed after which meters will also be installed in other residential colonies of KMC.
KMC Karachi will provide full cooperation to the team of K Electric in this regard and any illegal activity in the use of electricity. In addition, the KMC will be responsible for the payment of bulk connection bills till the installation of individual meters is completed. On this occasion, members of the joint committee of KMC and K Electric discussed various issues. Discussed, Administrator Karachi Laiq Ahmed directed that KMC “Officers and employees residing in all residential areas of the state should be informed immediately that K-Electric has been provided access to the installation of individual meters within their premises. Therefore, they should extend all possible cooperation in this regard,” he said. Any minor or major disputes with K-Electric should be settled amicably in the interest of both parties. As far as legal matters are concerned, they will also be reviewed by the legal experts in the joint committee.
