One 100 Million People Were Infected With TB In 2019, Says Prof. Zarnaz Wahid

KARACHI– Prof. Zarnaz Wahid, PRO- Vice Chancellor of Dow University of Health Sciences, has said that 63 million TB patients have been saved from death since 2000. One 100 million people were infected with TB in 2019. He said this in a special address after leading a walk on the occasion of World TB Day at Ojha Institute of Chest Diseases.
Sindh Parliamentary Secretary for Zakat and Ushr Heer Ismail Soho, Director of the Institute Prof. Nisar Ahmed Rao, Deputy Director Dr. Nadeem Ahmed, Dr. Saifullah Baig, and others were also present on the occasion.

Addressing the participants of the walk, Prof. Zarnaz Wahid said that 465,000 people were infected with TB due to drug resistance. Prof. Zarnaz Wahid said that according to the data of Sindh in 2018, out of the population of 47.8 million people were rural areas, The TB prevalence rate was 52% in rural and 48% in urban areas. She said that out of 29 districts of the province if the rate is calculated on the basis of 2019 data, the rate is 263 per 100,000 people, while the TB treatment rate in the province is 59 percent. People who do not reach the treatment center or leave the treatment incomplete are called Missing TB Persons. According to the data of 2019 in Sindh province, the number of hearing on TB Missing was 41%, she said. He said that the rate of recovery from TB treatment in the province is 90% while the death rate is 2.4%. Earlier, participants of the walk carried banners and play-cards from Ojha Institute of Chest Diseases to Main OPD Block.
