US State Department reacts to PTI chairman’s arrest as an internal matter
LAHORE MIRROR — The United States has responded the arrest of former prime minister and PTI Chairman Imran Khan, terming it as Pakistan’s internal matter.
While activists and legal experts express concerns over the potential exacerbation of the political crisis, the US State Department spokesperson called for the respect of democratic principles and the rule of law in Pakistan.
He also said that the conviction was Islamabad’s internal matter, however, activists and legal experts claim it would worsen the political crisis.
Interestingly, lawmakers in the US, who were previously vocal in support of the PTI chairman and his populist politics, have remained silent on the matter.

They point out that the previous premier was convicted on the basis of an iqama, and now another faces jail time for allegedly selling wristwatches.
