UHS BoG Approves Selection Boards For Key Posts
Medals and Awards Endorsed For Covid-19 Frontline Workers

LAHORE– The 46th meeting of the Board of Governors (BoG) of the University of Health Sciences (UHS) was held on Tuesday under the chairmanship of former Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Tassaduq Hussain Jillani. The top statutory body approved selection boards for appointment on key posts of the controller of examinations and registrar.
According to the press release, other members who attended the meeting were UHS Vice-Chancellor Prof Javed Akram, Pro VC Prof Maroof Aziz, Prof Anwar A. Khan, and additional secretary Punjab Finance department while Prof Saleema Hashmi, PTI MNA Andelib Abbas, and additional secretary Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education department Usman Khalid attended the meeting via video link. UHS Registrar Dr Asad Zaheer and Treasurer Baqi Bin Hanif were also present on the occasion.
The meeting discussed important administrative and financial issues related to the university. The board approved the commencement of family medicine programs at its constituent Gujranwala Medical College. These programs would be launched under the auspices of the UHS Family Medicine department.
The meeting also approved the selection boards for the appointment of the controller of examinations and registrar of the university. The selection board for the controller of examinations will be headed by the Pro-VC Prof Maroof Aziz while other members will include Prof Nadia Naseem, Dr Asad Zaheer and the controllers of examinations of Punjab University and the University of Education Lahore. The registrar’s selection board will also be headed by Vice-Chancellor Prof Javed Akram. Other members will include Prof. Anwar A. Khan, Prof. Maroof Aziz and Dr Asad Zaheer.
The meeting also approved various initiatives taken by the university with regards to Covid-19. The focal person, UHS Coronavirus Vaccine Trial Dr Shehnoor Azhar briefed the board in this regard. He said the UHS had set up telemedicine centres during the coronavirus pandemic which benefited millions. Dr Shehnoor Azhar further said that clinical trials of Can-Sino and ZF 2001 vaccines were conducted successfully in the university.
“In the ZF2001 vaccine trial, a total of 2350 volunteers have so far been inducted”, said Professor Javed Akram adding that the results of the vaccine had been promising and the varsity would make the interim results public soon. UHS VC further apprised the board members that the Islamic Development Bank had approached the university through the Economic Affairs Division regarding Covid-19 prevention and treatment, telehealth, and emergency life support.
“This can be an opportunity for UHS to link up with 57 member countries of OIC and it promises enhanced professional profile, international exposure, and possibly a source of foreign exchange”, he opined. He further said that UHS has been invited by the World Health Organization to participate in the Patient Safety Project which required the development of evidence-based policies to minimize medical errors that result in losses during hospitalization.
On this occasion, the board paid tribute to the university workers and staff fighting against the coronavirus pandemic and approved medals and meritorious awards for them.
