Second Women’s ODI: Pakistan Takes on South Africa Today

0

LAHORE MIRROR – The second One-day International (ODI) of a three-match series featuring Pakistan Women and South Africa Women is set to kick off in Karachi today (Monday). The match is scheduled to commence at 3:30 PM Pakistan Standard Time.

This ODI series follows Pakistan Women’s impressive performance in the preceding three-match T-20 series, where they managed to achieve a clean sweep.

Their resounding victory in the T-20 series has raised expectations and excitement among cricket enthusiasts, both in Pakistan and around the world.

In stark contrast to their dominant performance in the recent T20I series against South Africa, Pakistan’s women’s cricket team found themselves struggling in the second ODI against the visitors.

After sweeping the T20Is, the home team faced a significant defeat in the first ODI, and they were looking for a turnaround in the second match of the series.

South Africa won the toss and opted to bat first.

Early on, Pakistan’s spinners, Nashra Sundhu and Umm-e-Hani, provided a glimmer of hope by dismissing Tazmin Brits and Laura Wolvaardt. Aliya Riaz joined the effort, taking the wicket of Lara Goodall. With South Africa three down within the powerplay, Pakistan appeared to be gaining control.

However, a remarkable partnership between Marizanne Kapp and Sune Luus turned the tide. Their incredible 183-run stand put South Africa in a commanding position. Luus achieved her maiden ODI century, while Kapp notched her second ODI hundred. Nashra Sundhu eventually broke the partnership, but the damage had been done. South Africa posted a daunting total of 292 runs in their first innings.

Facing a substantial chase, Pakistan’s innings got off to a shaky start. Debutant Shawaal Zulfiqar fell early to Ayabonga Khaka. Bismah Maroof, who had only managed 10 runs, also departed during the powerplay. The quick succession of wickets continued with Sidra Amin and Nida Dar both falling. Muneeba Ali briefly looked like she might stabilize the innings, but she too was dismissed.

Pakistan found themselves in dire straits at 69-5 after 17 overs. Sidra Nawaz and Aliya Riaz attempted to rebuild, adding 42 runs to the partnership before Nonkululeko Mlaba removed Sidra. Despite Aliya’s valiant efforts, Pakistan couldn’t bridge the gap, and wickets continued to tumble. Pakistan was eventually bowled out for 165, with South Africa winning comfortably by a margin of 127 runs.

The series now stands at 1-1, setting the stage for a thrilling decider in the third ODI.
