Remittances increase 5.5pc to 18,781m in 10QFY20

KARACHI: Workers’ remittances have recorded an increase of 5.5 per cent in the first 10 months of the current fiscal year as these jumped from $17,801 million in July-April (2018-19) to $18,781.6 million in July-April (2019-20) recording an increase of $980.6 million.

The remittances in April 2020 were recorded at $1,790 million with a decrease of $104.4 million or 5.5pc over $1,894.4 million remittances received during previous month of March.

The remittances, however, witnessed an increase of $19.8 million or 1.1pc during April 2020 ($1,790.0 million) over remittances received during corresponding month of FY19 ($1,770.2 million).

In April this year, $451.4 million worth remittances were received from Saudi Arabia, $401.9 million from the US, $353.8 million from the UAE and $226.6 million from the UK.

The remittances from the US increased by 14pc in April 2020 as compared to March this year, whereas these recorded decrease of 0.2pc, 15.8pc and 8.8pc for Saudi Arabia, the UAE and the UK respectively in the two-month comparison.
