NAB takes Moonis Elahi’s secretary into custody on kickbacks charges

LAHORE MIRROR — The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has taken Sohail Asghar Awan into custody, who serves as the secretary to former federal minister Moonis Elahi over allegations of kickbacks in government contracts on Wednesday.

NAB Lahore displayed swift and resolute action by arresting Awan. The accusations against him revolve around purportedly accepting substantial kickbacks linked to government contracts.

The anti-corruption agency presented the accused individual before Accountability Court Judge Zubair Shehzad Kayani. During this appearance, NAB emphatically reiterated the serious nature of the alleged corruption, which allegedly involves millions of rupees.

Awan’s alleged participation in illicit financial activities has been backed by a multitude of evidence. NAB officials have emphasized the importance of securing vital documents and relevant materials from Awan to further fortify their case.

In accordance with legal procedures, NAB formally requested the court to grant them physical custody of the accused. This would allow for a comprehensive investigation into the matter.

Accountability Court Judge Kayani, in a decision that underscores the court’s dedication to upholding due process, has granted the request for Sohail Asghar Awan’s physical remand until August 16.
