Interim govt empowers NAB to carry Nawaz, Maryam to Adiala via helicopter

ISLAMABAD: The caretaker federal government has accorded approval to the authorities concerned to shift former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam to Adiala prison via helicopter.

NAB Lahore Director General Shahzad Saleem had formally requested NAB Chairman Justice (r) Javed Iqbal that Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam Nawaz be shifted to Adiala jail from airport via helicopter immediately upon their arrival.

The decision was taken at a meeting presided over by the interior secretary. The participats also reviewed security arrangements pertaining to Nawaz’s arrival in Lahore.

The interim provincial government has been given the task to ensure foolproof security at the Lahore airport. Immigration authorities will hand over the convicts to NAB men.

The decision to present them before the corruption court will be taken in light of security situation. Authorities have also decided to obtain their judicial remand in prison in case any security issue emerges.

Maryam announces return

Nawaz and his daughter would return to Pakistan on July 13 from London where they are tending to the veteran leader’s wife, Kulsoom, who is being treated for cancer and is in a coma after suffering a heart attack last month.

The interior ministry has placed their names on the Exit Control List, which bars individuals from leaving the country.
