Gas theft crackdown: 163 more connections cut off, Rs4.2M fine in Punjab, KP, Islamabad

LAHORE MIRROR — In an ongoing effort to combat gas theft, the Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) has intensified its crackdown on pilferers, with a recent series of raids across various regions. The operations have resulted in the disconnection of 163 gas connections and the imposition of fines totaling Rs. 4.2 million.

Peshawar: In Peshawar, 32 gas connections were disconnected due to direct gas usage and illegal connections. A substantial fine of Rs. 2 million was imposed on gas theft, and three FIRs were lodged against gas thieves.

Rawalpindi: SNGPL’s regional team in Rawalpindi disconnected eight gas connections and levied a fine of Rs. 17,000 for gas theft.

Mardan: In Mardan, eight gas connections were disconnected due to illegal gas usage.

Sialkot: In Sialkot, the company disconnected nine connections linked to gas compressor use.

Sargodha: Three gas connections were disconnected in Sargodha due to illegal gas usage.

Gujranwala: The regional team in Gujranwala disconnected 14 connections and imposed a fine of Rs. 745,500 for gas theft.

Gujrat: In Gujrat, three connections were disconnected for illegal gas use, with a fine of Rs. 65,000 imposed.

Islamabad: In the capital city, 13 gas connections were disconnected for illegal usage, and a fine of Rs. 217,073 was imposed against gas pilferers.

Sahiwal: In Sahiwal, five connections were disconnected for the illegal shifting of connections, with one FIR lodged and a fine of Rs. 117,000 imposed on gas theft.

Faisalabad: The regional team in Faisalabad disconnected ten connections for gas theft and another 12 for the use of compressors, with a fine of Rs. 116,000 imposed against gas pilferers.

Lahore: In Lahore, six connections were disconnected for illegal gas usage, one for using a compressor, and a significant fine of Rs. 760,109 was imposed on gas theft.

Bahawalpur: In Bahawalpur, nine connections were disconnected due to compressor usage, and five were disconnected for gas theft.

Multan: SNGPL disconnected 15 connections for compressor usage and seven for illegal gas use in Multan, imposing a fine of Rs. 62,000 against gas pilferers.

Sheikhupura: In Sheikhupura, three connections were disconnected by the regional team.

The crackdown against gas theft demonstrates SNGPL’s commitment to curbing illegal activities and ensuring the fair distribution of natural gas to consumers. These actions aim to deter unauthorized use and send a clear message that gas theft will not be tolerated.
