LAHORE MIRROR — The Emergency Services Department (ESD) commemorated both International Youth Day and Independence Day through a remarkable ceremony.

The occasion, which took place on Saturday, was attended by a distinguished audience including Heads of Wings, senior Emergency Officers from ESD and ESA, and a substantial gathering of rescuers from various regions including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh, Balochistan, and Punjab.

In honor of International Youth Day 2023, ESD Secretary Dr Rizwan Naseer underscored the significance of the youth as a valuable asset for the nation. He emphasised the importance of empowering the youth with technical education, recognising their potential to contribute significantly to the country’s progress.

Dr Naseer extended a heartfelt invitation to all young individuals, urging them to collaborate with Rescue 1122 in its mission to save lives, alter perceptions, and foster safety. He presented the option of becoming a “Rescue Scout,” a role that can be embraced by registering on the Rescue Cadet Corps App. Enrollees would then undergo online training, followed by hands-on practical training at their nearest Rescue Station.

During the ceremony, the national flag was hoisted, and a celebratory cake was cut in commemoration of Independence Day. Secretary ESD, accompanied by senior Rescue Officers, extended warm Independence Day wishes to all rescuers from across Pakistan’s provinces.

The gathering also served as an opportunity to acknowledge Rescue 1122 staff for their commendable achievement – securing the Development Leadership Award bestowed by the Ministry of Planning, Development & Special Initiatives, and Government of Pakistan. Dr Naseer attributed this success to the enduring principles set forth by the nation’s founding father, Quaid-i-Azam, stating that unwavering commitment and selfless dedication can lead to remarkable accomplishments.

Further adding to the celebration, Secretary ESD presented certificates to the members of the Pakistan Young Rescuers Team (PYRT). Their commendable third-place finish in the International Young Rescuers Competition-2023 held in Azerbaijan earned them this recognition. Dr Naseer extended warm felicitations to the team on International Youth Day, expressing his hope that they would persist in their devoted efforts for a prosperous Pakistan.

The event concluded with a renewed sense of purpose and commitment, as attendees were inspired by the union of celebrating youth potential and the nation’s independence, along with the dedication of rescuers who stand as a beacon of hope and safety for the country.
