Coronavirus Strikes PML-N’s Nehal Hashmi, KP’s Top Bureaucrat Dr Kazim Niaz

LAHORE MIRROR (Monitoring Desk)– As the coronavirus cases are almost touching the mark of 57,000 with over 1,160 deaths as of Monday, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Nehal Hashmi and Khyber Pakthunkhwa Chief Secretary Dr Kazim Niaz are both the latest high profile figures who contracted cornavirus.

According to PML-N spokesperson Asad Usmani, Hashmi is under self-isolation at his home in Karachi.

According to KP Labour Minister Shaukat Yousafzai, Niaz has quarantined at home and will work from home till his recovery from the virus.

Praying for the speedy recovery of the official, KP Chief Minister Mehmood Khan said: “I pay tribute to Dr Kazim Niaz and his officers for their commendable services during the pandemic.”

On Sunday, PML-N leader Amir Muqam had said that he had tested positive for the coronavirus and was quarantined at his home.

“I have quarantined myself at my home,” Muqam, the president for the PML-N’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chapter, said on Twitter.

“I request the nation to take care,” he said, asking people to pray for his recovery.

Earlier, his personal secretary had confirmed the news as well, adding that Muqam was in self-quarantine at his Islamabad residence.

Responding to the news that his party member had contracted the deadly virus, PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif said he was “saddened”.

“Amir Muqam is an active member of the party in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa,” Shehbaz said on Twitter.

101 new coronavirus cases in Balochistan

About 101 new patients tested positive for coronavirus in Balochistan, raising the province-wide tally to 3,407 on Sunday.

According to media coordinator provincial Health Directorate Coronavirus Cell Balochistan Dr Muhammad Wasim Baig, at least 51,113 people were screened for the virus till May 24, adding that 101 more were reported positive within 24 hours.

“As many as 875 affected patients have been recovered from the coronavirus so far while 40 deaths were recorded due to the contagious virus in Balochistan,” the official notified.

On May 21, the Balochistan government had decided to extend the ongoing smart lockdown till June 2 across the province.
