World Mental Health Day: Health Minister Dr Yasmeen Attends Multiple Activities
The minister also addresses ceremony in connection with the convocation of King Edward Medical University
LAHORE– Punjab Minister for Health Dr Yasmeen Rashid attended a ceremony and an awareness walk held in connection with World Mental Health Day at the Punjab Institute of Mental Health on Thursday.
Principal Services Institute of Medical Sciences Prof Mehmood Ayyaz, Executive Director Institute of Mental Health Lahore Dr Mudassar, Dr Shahid Raza, faculty members and a large number of students were present on this occasion.
Provincial Minister visited various stalls set up by the students to highlight the importance of mental health day on this occasion.
Addressing the participants, Dr Yasmeen Rashid said that purpose to observe World Mental Health Day is to ensure looking after of mental health patients. She said that life is the trust of Allah Almighty and mental stress often leads to different diseases.
Depression is root cause of mental disease, she added. She said that trend of suicide is highly deplorable in the world especially in Pakistan. Provincial Minister directed the Principal SIMS to launch a helpline to facilitate the family members of mental health patients within a week.
She said that all complaints received through this helpline would be solved.
She further said that patients are being sufficiently looked after in the institute of mental health. According to the vision of Prime Minister Imran Khan and Chief Minister Usman Buzdar, healthcare facilities are being provided to the people of Punjab. She said that patients of mental health deserve special attention.
Principal Services Institute of Medical Sciences Prof. Mehmood Ayyaz thanked the Provincial Minister for attending the ceremony. Executive Director Institute of Mental Health Dr. Mudassar threw light on the importance of mental health day. Later, Provincial Health Minister also inflamed a candle.
