ISLAMABAD– Mainstream leaders of all opposition parties sat together in the federal capital on Sunday to mull strategy against the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s government, particularly in the backdrop of debilitating economic condition of the country.

The huddle took place on the iftar dinner invitation of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari who invited opposition leaders, including Maryam Nawaz Sharif.

The opposition parties’ meeting also included delegations from Awami National Party (ANP) and Jamaat-e-Islami. Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leaders Maryam Nawaz and Hamza Shehbaz are also attending the meeting.

Among other leaders attending the Iftar dinner are Aftab Sherpao, Liaquat Baloch, PTM leaders and Shah Awais Noorani.

Akhtar Mengal, Mahmood Khan Achazkzai and Asfandyar Wali Khan excused from attending the meeting due to prior personal commitments.

Sources in PPP said Bilawal Bhutto attempted to bring leaders of opposition parties on a single page against the decisions of PTI government and public protest campaign after Eidul Fitr.

PML-N President and Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif had warned of dire consequences if Pakistan’s economy continued to drown.

The US dollar soared to a record high of Rs150 in the open market on Friday morning, as the rupee continued to slide following Pakistan’s $6 billion bailout agreement with the International Monetary Fund earlier this week.
