LAHORE MIRROR – A major scandal involving an alleged “defective injection” from a private pharmaceutical company has surfaced in Punjab, with 12 diabetes patients reporting a loss of eyesight as a result.

As per media reports, a distressing development has emerged as 12 diabetic patients in Lahore and Kasur have reported a loss of eyesight after receiving this injection.

In response, the Health Department has launched an inquiry and issued directives to recall the injection stock across Punjab, including Lahore. Authorities have also initiated a crackdown on all eye centers connected to this issue.

In responding to media questions, the Caretaker Health Minister of Punjab Prof Dr Javed Akram stated that 17 individuals in Kasur have experienced vision problems as a result of receiving this injection. However, it’s important to note that none of the affected individuals have completely lost their eyesight.

As a precautionary measure, the use of this drug has been halted nationwide, as announced by the Caretaker Health Minister. It has also come to light that the injection in question is illegally smuggled.

The Caretaker Health Minister further clarified that this injection is typically administered in cases related to cataracts caused by diabetes. Interestingly, it is also employed as an anti-cancer medication.

The situation is under investigation, and further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.

In response to the crisis, the Drug Control Authority’s Director-General, Muhammad Sohail, has taken swift action by recalling the stock of these injections from all over Punjab, including Lahore.

Additionally, a crackdown has been initiated on all eye centers involved in administering these injections.

Director-General Muhammad Sohail has vowed that, within a few hours, these injections will be removed from all centers across Punjab.

The incident is currently under investigation, and strict action will be taken against the responsible company, as affirmed by DG Muhammad Sohail.

Minister of Primary Education, Dr. Jamal Nas, has also confirmed that an investigation into the incident is underway.
