Rescue 1122 Starts T-CPR For Caller To Save Lives

LAHORE MIRROR (By Web Correspondence) – The Punjab Emergency Service Department (PESD) Rescue 112 has started Telecommunicator Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (T-CPR) training to guide a caller for performing CPR on the telephone till the emergency ambulance reached the incident site. The T-CPR training would help to enhance the survival rate for patients of cardiac arrest, drowning, and electrocuted emergencies.

This training workshop was organized by the Emergency Services Academy in collaboration with the Agha Khan University (AKU), Karachi, and Resuscitation Academy Foundation, USA. It was held at the Manager Training Center of Emergency Services Headquarters here on Saturday.  The workshop was attended by Registrar Academy Dr. Farhan Khalid, Head of Community Safety & Information Ms. Deeba Shahnaz, Controller Examination Ms. Roqiya Bano Javed, senior officers from Rescue headquarters & Academy and all Control Room In-charges (CRIs) of Punjab.

Dr. Adil Haider Dean, Agha Khan University Medical College, MS. Julie Buckingham Program Director QI T-CPR program, Ms.  Ann Doll Executive director Resuscitation academy foundation, Dr. Junaid Razzak director center of excellence for trauma & emergencies Aga Khan University joined this workshop via video link and also expressed their views about the first-ever launch of T-CPR in Pakistan.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, DG PESD Dr. Rizwan Naseer said that Rescue 1122 has responded to over 10 million emergency calls since 2004 and takes about 4000 emergency calls daily.  He emphasized the importance of professionally trained rescue dispatchers in emergency control rooms. Therefore, this workshop intended to impart training of T- CPR for call agents of the Rescue 1122 helpline, which would be helpful for cardiac arrest patients before the arrival of the ambulance, and this step would increase the survival rate of heart patients. He hoped that this training would enhance the capacity of CRIs and they would further impart this training to their respective districts’ staff.  The training participants also shared their local experiences and asked various questions about the implementation of this program in their districts.

On this occasion, Dr. Rizwan Naseer informed that a survey would be conducted after three months to check the effectiveness of the T-CPR module in all districts of Punjab. He appreciated the team of Agha Khan to incorporate T-CPR training, the Pakistan Life Saver Program, and the evaluation of the emergency medical technician training program in the Rescue Academy.

The training participants were trained on T-CPR, challenges of its implementation, importance of T-CPR, and its implementation in Pakistan.
