LAHORE– Salman Jahangir of Lahore Gymkhana Golf Club won the 4th Chairman WAPDA Amateur Golf Tournament after leading the board on all three days at Lahore Gymkhana Golf Club.
Governor Punjab Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar was the chief guest at the concluding ceremony who gave away prizes to the winners. Deputy High Commissioner Kingdom of Jordon Dr. Mean Khareasat, Foreign Economic Attache Embassy of Hungry Dr. Istvan Grafjodi, Minister in High Commission, Nigeria Mr. Ahmedu Baba Gana, Charge’ d’ Affairs High Commission of Malaysia Mr. Deddy Faisal Ahmed Salleh, Ambassador of Kyrgyz Republic H.E. Ulanbak Totuiaev, Ambassador Bosnia Herzegovina H. E. Sakib Foric, Admiral Muhammad Asif Sandhilla (Retd) Chairman Lahore Gymkhana Golf Club Misbah ur Rehman, President Pakistan Golf Federation Lt Gen Mian Muhammad Hilal Hussain, (Retd), and a number of golfers also attended the ceremony.
Speaking on the occasion, Governor Punjab said sports is considered to be one of the fundamental elements for development all over the world and thus all efforts should be made to promote sports in Pakistan. He appreciated WAPDA for tremendously contributing towards promotion of sports in the country as its corporate social responsibility besides developing water and hydropower sectors.
“ WAPDA is constructing mega dams for future generations, water reservoirs are being constructed after almost five decades, WAPDA’s efforts for food and energy security are laudable” he said adding that Media should highlight such projects of National Importance.
He urged other public sector organizations to follow WAPDA as role model for development of sports in Pakistan. He congratulated Chairman WAPDA and his team for successfully organizing the tournament.
The 4th Chairman WAPDA Golf Tournament was played from February 11 to 13 under the aegis of Pakistan WAPDA Sports Board. The matches were contested in the categories of amateurs, senior amateurs, ladies, veterans and invitational.
The results of winners in different categories are as follows: Veteran: Javed A Khan – Lahore Gymkhana, 1st gross and Tahir Nawazish- Lahore Gymkhana. 1st net. Ladies: Iman Ali shah of Lahore Gymkhana– 1st gross and, and Parkha Ijaz – 1st net. Seniors: Col (Retd) Asif Mehdi of Lahore Garrison– 1st gross and Dr. Abdul Hameed ofLahore Gymkhana – 1st net.
