Why UK Nurse Lucy Letby Took Lives of Infants?

LAHORE MIRROR — British nurse Lucy Letby, now infamous as one of the most chilling medical serial killers in the UK, stands accused of poisoning, physically assaulting, and overfeeding seven infants, leading to their tragic deaths.

The youngest victim claimed by this serial killer nurse was a mere day old. While the motivations behind the 33-year-old nurse’s heinous acts may remain shrouded in mystery, investigators have put forth various theories that might shed light on her chilling spree of murders.

Among her victims were two triplet boys, identified in court as babies O and P. In June 2016, shortly after Letby’s return from a vacation in Ibiza, baby O passed away, followed by the death of baby P the following day.

Prosecutors revealed during the trial that by this point, Letby had seemingly spiraled out of control, assuming a role akin to playing God. They alleged that she deliberately harmed a baby, then took the lead in notifying her colleagues about the child’s deteriorating condition.

“She was controlling things. She was enjoying what was going on. She was predicting things that she knew were going to happen. She, in effect, was playing God,” declared one of the prosecutors.

Disturbingly, causing harm to these infants seemed to bring Letby a twisted sense of enjoyment. Despite being detained twice before, she managed to evade legal consequences until her third arrest in 2020, which led to her subsequent detention.

In Letby’s home, investigators uncovered hospital records and a handwritten note bearing the chilling phrase, “I am evil, I did this.”

The prosecution put forth evidence suggesting a covert relationship between Letby and a married doctor at the Countess of Chester Hospital. This doctor was among those alerted when babies rapidly deteriorated, allegedly a significant facet of their relationship. The prosecution implied that she harmed the infants to garner the doctor’s “personal attention,” a claim she contested.

Several notes attributed to Letby were presented to the jury. One disturbing note read, “I killed them on purpose because I’m not good enough to care for them.” In another, she wrote, “I will never have children or marry. I will never know what it’s like to have a family.”

The prosecution detailed Letby’s deployment of various techniques to harm the infants, including injecting air and insulin into their bloodstream, infusing air into their gastrointestinal tracts, overfeeding them with milk or fluids, and inflicting impact-related injuries.

It was suggested that she aimed to kill the infants while disguising the deaths as natural occurrences to deceive her colleagues.

“Lucy Letby sought to deceive her colleagues and pass off the harm she caused as nothing more than a worsening of each baby’s existing vulnerability. In her hands, innocuous substances like air, milk, fluids – or medication like insulin – would become lethal. She perverted her learning and weaponized her craft to inflict harm, grief, and death,” remarked Pascale Jones of the CPS.

“Time and again, she harmed babies, in an environment which should have been safe for them and their families. Her attacks were a complete betrayal of the trust placed in her,” he concluded.
