LAHORE– As the Punjab government is mulling to appoint the Additional Chief Secretary and Additional Inspector General of Police for the South Punjab Secretariat Bahawalpur from July 1, 2020, senior bureaucrats working in the province are under consideration for the tops slots, being considered important administrative units in the new set up.

Officials sitting at the helm of affairs in the Punjab government speaking to Lahore Mirror say four Additional IGs are currently in the run for the slot that will deal three divisions of Multan, Bahawalpur and Dera Ghazi Khan.

The names recommended to the Chief Minister Secretariat include Additional IG Establishment B A Nasir, Additional IG Counter Terrorism Department Punjab Muhammad Tahir Rai, Additional IG Operations Punjab Inam Ghani and Additional IG Ehsaan Taufail.

Similarly few provincial secretaries have been under consideration for the slot of the Additional Chief Secretary South Punjab.

Additional Chief Secretary Punjab Shoukat Ali, Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Momin Agha, Senior Member Board of Revenue Babar Hayat Tarar, are among others for ‘close’ consideration.

Officials say the Chief Secretary Punjab Office has got around 250 ministerial posts approved from the CM Secretariat for the working of the South Punjab Secretariat.

However, no such activity of creation of posts under the Additional IG South Punjab has taken place at the Central Police Punjab, Lahore.

Additional IG CTD Tahir Rai has some edge over others as he has served as Regional Police Officer Bahawalpur in the past.

The Additional CS South Punjab will work under the command of the Chief Secretary Punjab and will lead three Divisional Commissioners while the Additional IG South Punjab will work under the command of the Inspector General of Punjab police and will lead RPOs of three divisions.

A source, however, claims that Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar would decide the names of top slots keeping in view the professional feedback of officers. The appointments could be other than recommendations as senior officers are making efforts to bag top ‘lucrative’ slots, he adds.

As CM belongs to D G Khan district, he would want those officers who could deliver as per his expectations of raising backward areas of South Punjab at a fast track.
