LAHORE MIRROR — Names of potential caretaker prime minister candidates emerged on Friday as the government’s term nears its end.

According to the private TV channel, former premier Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and independent lawmaker from Balochistan Aslam Bhootani, are among those being considered for the position. Additionally, ex-Finance Minister Hafeez Sheikh and Fawad Hassan Fawad, the former principal secretary to Nawaz Sharif, are also part of the discussion.

Coalition partners held a Zoom meeting to discuss the caretaker setup. The meeting was attended by leaders such as Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F) Maulana Fazlur Rehman, Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto and other senior members.

Other prominent attendees included Balochistan National Party Chairman Akhtar Mengal, Jamhoori Wattan Party (JWP) leader Shahzain Bugti, Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM) leader Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, Bhootani, and National Democratic Movement (NDM) Chairman Mohsin Dawar.

Various names were considered during the meeting for the caretaker prime minister position. However, the coalition parties have decided to continue further consultations, and another meeting will be held for this purpose.

The Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) leaders have also been holding back-to-back meetings, but as of now, no decision has been taken. At a dinner reception on Thursday, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif informed the allied parties that the National Assembly will be dissolved prematurely on August 9, which is three days before its term ends.
