PU Academic Council Recommends Four PVCs
LAHORE- Punjab University Academic Council on Monday recommended creation of four posts of pro vice chancellors, a major administrative and academic restructure in PU history.
The meeting was presided over by PU Vice Chancellor Prof Niaz Ahmad at Al Raazi Hall in which deans, heads of departments and professors participated.
Taking major initiatives, the Academic Council has recommended creation of seats of pro vice chancellor academics, pro vice chancellor administration, pro vice chancellor student affairs, pro vice chancellor resource mobilization and dean internationalization.
In order to improve academic standard and improve international ranking of the university further, the Academic Council, after detailed deliberations, recommended to upgrade Institute of Communication Studies to Faculty of Communication and Media Studies, Department of Economics to School of Economics, PU College of Information Technology to Faculty of Information Technology, Department of Special Education to Institute of Special Education, Department of Metallurgy and Materials Engineering to Institute of Metallurgy and Materials Engineering, Department of Urdu to Institute of Urdu, Department of Punjabi to Institute of Punjabi and Urdu Development Committee to Centre for Urdu Development.
The faculty members also congratulated PU VC Prof Niaz Ahmad for improvement in international ranking of the university. They said that the major changes in the university structure were need of the hour and these would not only improve university’s international ranking but also produce graduates according to the needs of the market.
Need to work on Seerat-e-Nabvi on modern lines: speakers
Religious scholars have stressed the need to work on the life of Hazrat Muhammad SAW as per demands of modern age.
They were addressing international Seerat conference organized by Faculty of Islamic Studies at Sheikh Zayed Islamic Centre’s auditorium here on Monday.
On this occasion Aligarh Muslim University Islamic Studies’ Prof Dr Muhammad Yaseen Mazhar Siddiqui and Prof Dr Ubaidullah Fahad Falahi, PU Dean Faculty of Islamic Studies Prof Dr Hammad Lakhvi, Director Institute of Islamic Studies Prof Dr Muhammad Saad Siddiqui, faculty members and a large number of students were present on the occasion.
Addressing the conference, Prof Dr Hammad Lakhvi said that we could elaborate the life of Hazrat Muhammad SAW in our way without adopting the way of Western scholars. He said that there was a need to enhance our reading habits to write on the various aspects of the life of Hazrat Muhammad SAW.
He said that the nations who did not remember their philosophers and thinkers did not survive. Prof Dr Yasin Mazhar said that some interpretations of Western scholars were based on rumors. He stressed the Islamic scholars to create awareness among people regarding economic aspects of teachings of Hazrat Muhammad SAW.
Prof Dr Ubaid Ullah Fahad Falahi said that there was a need to give new narrative to Islamic movements. He said that the meaning of various terminologies had changed and we must interpret various issues in a correct manner. He said that Hazrat Muhammad SAW gave special rights to the women. He said that we should elaborate life of Hazrat Muhammad SAW in the light of demands of modern age.
