London: After recognizing Palestine as a state, the Palestinian mission in the UK has been granted embassy status, and the Palestinian flag has been hoisted outside the building.
The Palestinian ambassador to the UK, Husam Zomlot, while addressing the ceremony, said: “Let us all raise the flag of Palestine together, whose colors represent our nation — black symbolizes mourning, white our hope, green our land, and red the sacrifices of our people.”
He said that recognizing the Palestinian state is a step towards correcting historical injustices and reflects a shared commitment to a future based on freedom, dignity, and fundamental human rights.
Husam Zomlot emphasized that the Palestinian state has been recognized at a time when we are enduring unimaginable pain and suffering, and we are facing a genocide that has not only remained unacknowledged but is being allowed to continue with impunity.
He further said that our people in Gaza are being subjected to starvation and bombings, buried under the rubble of their own homes, and our people in the West Bank are facing daily ethnic cleansing, state terrorism, land theft, and oppression.
Husam Zomlot said that even now, questions are being raised about the humanity of the Palestinian people, our lives are considered worthless, and our fundamental rights are being continuously denied.
He said: “We raise this flag with the pledge that Palestine will always exist, Palestine will rise, and Palestine will be free.”
It should be noted that yesterday, the UK, Canada, and Australia announced the recognition of Palestine as a state.
