One Minor Killed, 10 Missing as Boat Capsizes in River Sutlej near Okara

LAHORE MIRROR– A minor child was killed and 10 other persons were missing when a boat carrying around 44 people capsized in River Sutlej in Jasoke village near Okara on Thursday night, said the Spokesperson of Punjab Rescue 1122.
On the evening of August 3, 2023, Rescue 1122 received a distress call reporting a boat sinking in Sujike, Sutlej River. According to the initial information provided by the rescue spokesperson, 33 people have been successfully rescued, while 10 individuals are still missing.
In response to the emergency, urgent rescue teams have been dispatched from nearby districts, following the instructions of the Secretary of the Emergency Services Department.

The rescue operation was initially initiated with 5 boats from Okara. Subsequently, two boats from Bahawalnagar, three boats from Rescue Pakpattan, and three boats from the Pakistan Army were also deployed to aid in the search and rescue efforts.
Currently, a team of 30 rescuers and 12 boats is actively conducting the rescue operation in Sujukey, Haveli Lakha, Okara, along the banks of River Sutlej.
Tragically, a 5-year-old child identified as Faizan, son of Maswar, lost his life in the accident, as confirmed by the Rescue spokesperson.
The rescue teams are persistently working to locate the missing individuals and provide assistance to those affected by this distressing incident.
