LAHORE MIRROR — A collision involving two trains in Sheikhupura, an industrial city in the Punjab province of Pakistan, left more than 30 people injured on Sunday.

The incident occurred when the Mianwali Express collided with a stationary freight train at the Qila Sattar Shah station. Fortunately, there were no reported casualties in the collision.

Railway officials stated that the passenger coach was en route from Mianwali to Lahore when it collided with the stationary train at the station. Both the train driver and assistant were among those injured in the accident.

In response to the collision, the injured passengers and crew members have been transported to a local hospital for medical treatment. Those with minor injuries received immediate first aid at the scene.

Initial reports indicate that the accident resulted from negligence on the part of the local station staff, who failed to switch the railway track as needed.

In the wake of the preliminary investigations, at least four railway officials, including a train driver and assistant, have been suspended. Additionally, an inquiry commission led by a deputy principal officer has been established to provide a comprehensive report as soon as possible.

Railway authorities have suggested that strict action will be taken against those found responsible for the incident. CEO Railways Shahid Aziz emphasized that passenger safety will not be compromised under any circumstances.
