LAHORE- A meeting regarding the Review of Unicef Nutrition Program and Early Childhood Development was held under the chairmanship of Chairman Planning & Development Board Hamid Yaqoob Sheikh at the P&D Department on Friday.
During the briefing, Unicef Representative appreciated the support of P&D Government of Punjab and gave an overview of the initiatives undertaken to improve nutritional status of the community.
He elucidated the improvement gauged through last MICS and NNS reports.
Unicef Chief of Field Office Mr Wilbroad Ngambi emphasised on working along the life cycle approach for improving the malnutrition, controlling wasting and reduction in stunting.
He informed that Unicef has been supporting the Multi Sectoral Nutrition Center in the development and implementation of Multi Sectoral Nutrition Strategy (MSNS), Communication Strategy and plans to address the multi-faceted issue of malnutrition.
Chairman P&D Board lauded the efforts and contribution made by Unicef in areas of health and nutrition sector. He reiterated that the role of international development partners is corner stone in developmental activities and stressed upon integrated approach through multi sectoral strategy by mapping of initiatives taken in the entire province.
He highlighted the need of revising provincial nutrition strategy. He expressed Government’s commitment to improve health and nutritional status of the community through evidence based planning and effective implementation to see the results at the ground level.
He directed the Multi Sectoral Nutrition Center (MSNC) to hold Nutrition Steering Committee Meeting and regular review meetings of the relevant Sectors.
Overview on nutrition and early child hood development was presented by Unicef to the Chairman P&D Board. Unicef team was lead by Mr. Wilbroad and other team members included ; Dr. Sohail Saqlain, Nauman Ghari, Dr. Shafiq ur Rehman and Uzma Bokhari.–PRESS RELEASE
