LCWU Begins Online Teaching Due To Coronavirus Outbreak

LAHORE– The Lahore College for Women University has started teaching online as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic. The university has advised students and faculty staff that they could mange their academic work online.
In a statement, Prof Dr Bushra Mirza Vice Chancellor Lahore College for Women university said the measure would allow for an orderly transition to online delivery, if this was set to happen in the longer term.
“Closure of university to help contain the spread of Covid-19 is a real possibility for Pakistan, particularly as the prospect of community transmission of the virus becomes more likely.
“The university is therefore preparing for a scenario in which teaching would continue even if students are unable to come onto campus.
A range of remote learning technologies and practices would be deployed for students, while minimum staff continue to work on campus.” She added. Tests that were scheduled would also be postponed and rescheduled. A range of on-campus support will also available to help Community and Govt.
Vice-Chancellor Dr. Bushra Mirza said there had already been an “outstanding online response” to support Students. Prof Bushra Mirza said providing remote teaching to 14000 was a new step but she was confident it would be possible.”We are also very aware of the challenges to the continued delivery of our research commitments, which will also need some careful consideration.”Suspending on campus teaching activities provides an opportunity for our staff to focus fully on these areas and to adapt and adopt through creative problem solving and collaborative working.”
“We’ve been working extensively over the last few days, there are some programmes that are going to be relatively easy to move online and others that are going to be significantly harder.
As a precautionary measures sanitizers, gloves and face masks were distributed among the staff on duty.
Earlier today The first online meeting of the Graduate Research Committee Department of Mass Communication was held under the supervision of Chairperson  Dr. Anjum Zia, in which the Research committee reviewed the research proposals of the students  presented online.
At the meeting, Dr Sameera Batol, Dr Zaeem Yasin, Durre Ajam and Coordinator 8th semester Muniba Kleem were present online.
The  meeting  will continue on a daily basis till final approval of the dissertation of the students attending online.
This online meeting  was held in the light of the guidelines issued by the Higher Education Department Punjab and Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Bushra Mirza in connection with the Corona virus outbreak in the country.— PRESS RELEASE
