Lawyer Murder Case: SC Stops LEAs From Arresting PTI Chairmran
Police submit report to apex court in Razzaq Shar case
LAHORE MIRROR — A three-member bench of the Supreme Court (SC) has ordered the law enforcement agencies to refrain from arresting the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman until the next hearing on August 9.
The case in question revolves around the murder of lawyer Abdul Razzaq Shar.
The SC bench comprising Justice Musarrat Hilali and Justice Mazahar Ali Naqvi chaired by Justice Yahya Afridi. During the hearing, the PTI chairman was present, but the lawyer representing the petitioner was notably absent. The advocate general Balochistan sought a court order to have the PTI chairman cooperate with the investigation process and report to the investigation officer.
The Supreme Court has adjourned the hearing until August 9, requesting the PTI chief to be present on the said date.
On the other hand, the inspector general of Balochistan police submitted an investigation report to the Supreme Court regarding lawyer Abdul Razzaq Shar’s murder case. According to the report, the victim had been receiving threats due to a petition filed in the apex court related to Article 6.
During the investigation, a seven-member joint investigation team (JIT) was formed by the Ministry of Interior, chaired by CTD DIG on June 8, which held 8 meetings thus far. Despite summons sent to the PTI chairman on June 19, he failed to join the investigation. As a result, the JIT decided to include four suspects, including the PTI chairman, in the ongoing investigation.
Statements of the deceased’s wife and two brothers have already been recorded, indicating that the investigation is still underway. The case has garnered significant attention, and all eyes will be on the Supreme Court when it reconvenes on August 9 to further assess the matter.
