LAHORE MIRROR – The National Prosecutor’s Office announced on Wednesday that Spanish football star Jenni Hermoso had filed a lawsuit over an unwanted kiss by football federation chief Luis Rubiales following Spain’s victory in the Women’s World Cup.

With the complaint being made, Rubiales may now be subject to criminal charges in addition to the ongoing investigation into “serious misconduct” by Spain’s top sports court and the FIFA investigation.

During the awards ceremony on August 20 in Sydney, Australia, after Spain defeated England to win the championship, Rubiales kissed Hermoso on the lips. He is now under suspension by the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF).

Rubiales has maintained that the kiss was mutual. According to Hermoso, it wasn’t.

Hermoso added that after the uproar sparked by the scandalous kiss that stained her team’s victory, the federation put pressure on her and her family to publicly back Rubiales.

Hermoso has received support from the Spanish government, players, players’ unions, and a sizable number of citizens. Rubiales, meanwhile, is no longer accepted in the football community despite his refusal to leave.

On August 27, FIFA removed Rubiales from his position following his belligerent speech to the general assembly of his federation, in which he asserted that he was the target of a “witch-hunt” by “false feminists” and refused to resign.

Following the 46-year-old’s vehement defending statement after the incident, 81 players from the women’s team went on strike in protest.

According to the prosecutor’s office, Hermoso made the charge on Tuesday.

Prosecutors had said last week that they were going to meet Hermoso to give her the opportunity to present an accusation against Rubiales.
