LAHORE MIRROR — An Indian woman, Anju, who came to Pakistan for love Tuesday married her Pakistani friend Nasrullah in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Upper Dir after converting to Islam from Hinduism.

The couple tied the knot in a local court of a district and sessions judge. Malakand Division Deputy Inspector General Nasir Mehmood Satti confirmed the nikkah of Anju, 35, and Nasrullah, 29, saying that the woman has taken the name of Fatima after conversion to Islam.

He further stated that the Indian woman has been shifted to home from the court under police security.

The couple recorded the statement under Section 164, saying they have signed the nikkah on their own will. Anju told the court that she has willingly come to Pakistan and is very happy here.

Earlier, an Indian woman from Uttar Pradesh, has travelled to Pakistan’s Upper Dir district in order to marry and stay with a man from Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa after their Facebook friendship turned into a love affair.

According to the security sources, the 35-year-old woman from Kailor, Uttar Pradesh, India, was identified as Ms Anju. She reportedly followed her heart as she reached to Pakistan a few days ago to see her 25-year-old lover, Nasrullah, who hails from the scenic region of Upper Dir. She had a friendship with Nasrullah, a resident of Kulshoin village. The two had started a friendship on a social media platform that later blossomed into love.

Their Facebook friendship blossomed into love, prompting her to make the daring journey into Pakistan, a usually unlikely love match. However, neither of them confirmed if they have tied the knot yet.

In a statement, Anju declared her love for Nasrullah, saying their friendship on Facebook between her and Nasrullah had indeed turned into love and now she could not imagine her life without him. Meanwhile, security sources said that investigations were under way regarding the friendship between Anju and Nasrullah.

Born on 25/12/1988 in Uttar Pradesh, India, Ms Anju briefly told local journalists at Dir Khas that she loved Nasrullah and she could not live without him. She said they met on Facebook and their friendship turned into a deep love, after which she decided to leave India for Pakistan. She had applied for a visit visa and had reached her destination, she added.

According to a security official, the friendship of Ms Anju and Nasrullah was being investigated. District Police Officer of Upper Dir Mushtaq Khan told journalists that the woman was with them and they were investigating the matter. He said the woman had a valid visa and she could stay for a month. The DPO said the woman would be presented before the media once she was cleared.
