FAISALABAD– Faisalabad police have recently refurbished a fleet of 36 vehicles that will be used for police station duties.
City Police Officer DIG Captain (retired) Muhammad Sohail Ch inspected 36 vehicles after 15-day deadline given to the drivers.
Earlier, he checked the vehicles that were provided to the Punjab police for police stations in the last five years. During checking, the DIG observed that vehicles were being ignored and not looked after due to mishandling of untrained drivers.
He gave 15 days to the drivers of 36 vehicles to make them ready for proper inspection.
CPO Sohail told Lahore Mirror that an amount of Rs1 million has been spent on repairs and mechanical requirements and now they (vehicles) look new.
“If followed by other units this can save our lot of resources for maintenance of older version vehicles,” he noted.
It is usually observed that the police vehicles used by SHOs, Investigation In-charges and other officers at the police stations are in poor condition and are nor even ready to chase the suspects.
However, police jeeps, protocol pick ups and vehicles in use of VVIPs always get priority for repairs. Officers at police stations usually complain that they are nor provided with funds for repairs by officers in command.
However, senior police officers are of the view that police station staff also do not care much about police vehicles.
