LAHORE MIRROR — Bushra Bibi, the former first lady and spouse of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan, appeared before a joint investigation team (JIT) on Tuesday in Toshakhana case.

Accompanied by the PTI’s legal team, Bushra Bibi arrived at the DIG Office in Islamabad to face questioning from the investigation team assigned to the Toshakhana case. This development followed her earlier meeting with Imran Khan in Attock jail, which reportedly lasted for about two hours.

The session court had directed Bushra Bibi to cooperate with the investigation team. Following her appearance before the JIT, Quratul Ain, a member of the PTI legal team, informed the media that Bushra Bibi was interrogated for approximately 20 minutes. She answered all 20 questions posed by the JIT during the interrogation.

The Toshakhana case involves an FIR filed against Imran Khan, his wife Bushra Bibi, former accountability czar Shahzad Akbar, and others. They are accused of fraudulent activities including forgery and presenting a fake receipt for items received as gifts.

The Toshakhana, translated as “treasure house,” has faced scrutiny over allegations that Khan exploited his position as prime minister from 2018 to 2022 to acquire gifts at a reduced cost and then sold them for significant profits in the open market. The gifts, including valuable watches, were meant to be kept or sold at reduced fees according to Toshakhana rules.

Among the gifts were expensive watches given by a royal family, some of which were reportedly sold in Dubai by Khan’s associates. Notably, seven wristwatches, including high-end Rolex timepieces and a “Master Graff limited edition” watch valued at 85 million Pakistani rupees, were part of the collection.

The National Assembly Speaker Raja Pervez Ashraf forwarded a reference to the Election Commission to investigate the matter. In October 2022, the electoral body found Imran Khan guilty of corrupt practices and lodged a complaint in an Islamabad court.
