Babar, Shadab Shine as Nominees for ICC Player of the Month Award
LAHORE MIRROR — The ICC Player of the Month for August nominations were unveiled on Thursday, shining a spotlight on two Pakistani cricket stars, Babar Azam and Shadab Khan, along with West Indies’ Nicholas Pooran.
Babar Azam, the renowned Pakistani batsman, is eyeing a place in cricket history as he aims to become the first male player to secure three ICC Men’s Player of the Month Awards. His nomination is well-deserved, given his exceptional batting performances. Babar scored 53 and 60 runs during Pakistan’s dominant 3-0 ODI series victory over Afghanistan. Furthermore, his monumental 151-run innings in the Asia Cup opener against Nepal last month solidified his candidacy.
In contrast, Shadab Khan, the versatile all-rounder, is celebrating his first-ever nomination for the Player of the Month awards. His selection stems from a stellar August, where he excelled with both the bat and the ball against Afghanistan and Nepal. While he initially secured just one wicket in the first two Afghanistan encounters, Shadab’s exceptional three-wicket haul for 42 runs ensured a clean sweep for Pakistan. Additionally, his remarkable bowling performance, which featured four wickets for 27 runs against Nepal, underscores his prowess and makes him a worthy nominee.
The nominations of Babar Azam and Shadab Khan for the ICC Player of the Month highlight their outstanding contributions to Pakistani cricket. Their talent and consistent performances position them as strong contenders for this prestigious award.
