LAHORE MIRROR — Dr Najeeb Naqi was elected the 25th president of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) on Wednesday, securing 32 votes in the presidential election held in the AJK Legislative Assembly. LAHORE MIRROR — A 17-year-old boy was arrested in Bahawalpur for allegedly seeking instructions from artificial intelligence (AI) on how to poison his father, the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) said on Wednesday. According to an NCCIA spokesperson, the teenager was arrested following intelligence information received from abroad. The spokesperson said the suspect was allegedly inspired by the popular American crime drama Breaking Bad and had set up a laboratory at his home, where he reportedly attempted to prepare poison after seeking guidance from AI. LAHORE MIRROR — Retired Lieutenant General Nauman Mehmood has been appointed the first secretary general under the Makkah Defence Pact, the Foreign Office said. According to the Foreign Office, the newly appointed secretary general Nauman Mehmood will lead the alliance’s General Secretariat, which is to be established in Riyadh. The Makkah Joint Defence Pact is a trilateral defence agreement between Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Türkiye. LAHORE MIRROR (REUTERS)– An Iranian flight, Mahan Air, from Tehran landed in China’s Guangzhou, tracking data by FlightRadar24 said on Wednesday, the day Washington had threatened to “shut down” Tehran’s carriers and punish anyone doing business with them. US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent warned this week that any countries which provided Iranian planes with “landing services” would be “knocked out of the dollar system”, but did not give further details. According to security sources, Pakistan’s armed forces’ active and alert air defence system shot down the drones. The sources said four drones were shot down in areas adjoining the Torkham border, while four others were downed in mountainous areas along the border adjoining Kohat.
