Auction of Lady Diana’s Sweater Sets Record at $1.1 Million
LAHORE MIRROR – An unassuming sweater once owned by the iconic British royal, Lady Diana, has fetched a staggering price at auction, making it the world’s most expensive sweater, selling for $1,143,000.
Known as ‘The Black Sheep,’ the sweater features a distinctive design with a red background and a solitary black sheep amidst a sea of white ones.
Notably, it not only secured the highest price among Lady Diana’s belongings but also set the record as the most valuable sweater ever sold.
While Princess Diana was renowned for her fashion-forward choices, her clothing items often gained worldwide popularity.
‘The Black Sheep’ was initially worn by her during a polo match and, when it went up for auction in New York, it was snapped up within a mere 15 minutes, fetching a whopping 422.23 million Pakistani rupees.
Before this, the most expensive Diana dress sold at auction was a gown crafted by the Victor Edelstein Company, which went for $604,800.
The gown, created in 1989, featured a purple velvet top and skirt.
The sweater, knitted in 1979 by the famous British designer Sally Moir, showcases a unique pattern of white, red, and black wool.
Rows of white sheep grace a red backdrop, with a solitary black sheep set apart.
Experts initially estimated the sweater’s value to be around $80,000, making its final selling price all the more remarkable.
