NAB Briefed Over Reforms in Administrative Matters of Lahore Traffic Police
LAHORE– The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Lahore’s Awareness and Prevention (A&P) Wing under the supervision of the Director General NAB Lahore called Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Lahore Capt (R) Liaqat Ali Malik for briefing in the NAB office on Tuesday.
As per Section 33-C of NAB Ordinance, NAB A&P Wing took cognizance over alleged management related complaints against Traffic Police, Lahore.
A thorough briefing was presented by CTO Lahore over numerous issues being faced by Traffic officials while performing their duty.
Liaqat Ali Malik said the traffic police is likely to introduce Electronic System destined to counter reported financial issues in department which would also assist strengthen our traffic handling system.
He revealed that, at times, on duty Wardens have been tortured by miscellaneous persons, whereas, during last one year span around 312 Wardens have reportedly been beaten up in the line of duty.
He said that engineering and manufacturers faults in designs of numerous Underpasses built in Lahore cause frequent traffic mess, moreover, traffic officials have to suffer non-cooperativeness of other relevant departments in case of accidents at roads.
CTO also complained of delay in completion of under-construction work at different points in Lahore which cause road blockages for which high officials have many times been reported but of no avail.
In 2015, Lahore Parking Company (LPC) was introduced in Lahore which vehemently failed to resolve parking issues being faced by public.
Mr. Liaqat also expressed major reasons for public’s reported non-interest in Parking Plazas as such Plazas have been constructed at unsuitable sites.
Furthermore, basements of numerous commercial Plazas have been turned into illegal shops from dedicated Vehicle parking sites which is a sheer violation of rules.
He lamented that concerned departments didn’t pay much heed to traffic management related issues while issuing NoCs to new Housing Societies.
He further maintained that during one last year, Traffic Police has submitted Rs700 Million revenue into government kitty but issues pertaining to their budget still existed in recent past.
DG NAB Lahore directed to summon all stake holders for explaining their position into the matter.
The departments include Municipal Corporation, Lahore Development Authority (LDA), National Highway Authority (NHA), Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA), Education Department and Lahore Parking Company (LPC) officials.
DG advised all concerned departments to nominate their focal persons to handle emergency related traffic issues, collectively. He also offered NAB Lahore’s services for bringing betterment into Traffic Police and for the resolutions of problems being faced by this department.
He further stated that introducing reforms in each and every department is mandatory whereas, Traffic Police has brought numerous positive improvements into their department. He appreciated the services being laid by Capt (R) Liaqat Ali Malik during his one year tenure as CTO.— PRESS RELEASE
