Lahore Mirror: RJ Mitte, best known for playing Walter White Jr. in the acclaimed television series Breaking Bad, has died at the age of 34, according to entertainment publication Deadline.
Mitte’s representatives confirmed his death on Monday, October 12, 2026, in Brownsville, Texas, and said he died by suicide. Cameron County Justice of the Peace Cyndi Hinojosa declared him dead at around 1:30 p.m. local time. An autopsy is expected to be conducted.
In a statement, his representatives described him as a beloved actor, philanthropist and passionate advocate for disability rights. They also requested privacy for his family during this difficult time.
Breakthrough Role in ‘Breaking Bad’
Mitte rose to international prominence through Breaking Bad, the award-winning crime drama that aired from 2008 to 2013. He portrayed Walter White Jr., the son of chemistry teacher-turned-drug kingpin Walter White, played by Bryan Cranston.
The character also had cerebral palsy, reflecting Mitte’s own experience living with the condition. His performance helped bring greater visibility to people with disabilities on mainstream television.
The series received 58 Primetime Emmy nominations and won 16 awards, including two for Outstanding Drama Series. Mitte was also part of the cast that won the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series in 2014.
Acting Career Beyond the Series
Following his breakthrough, Mitte continued working across film and television.
He starred in the 2021 drama Triumph, playing a high school student with cerebral palsy who pursues his ambition of becoming a wrestler. In 2024, he appeared opposite Dove Cameron in Love Me Dead, followed by a role in Westhampton in 2025, alongside Finn Wittrock.
His television credits included Switched at Birth, Now Apocalypse and The Guardians of Justice (Will Save You!). He also lent his voice to HCBS Final Rule: The Animated Series, a series of shorts highlighting changes to community-based services for people with intellectual disabilities in California.
According to Deadline, Mitte’s most recent acting credit was the independent film Talking to Strangers, which received a red-carpet screening at the Fine Arts Theatre in Beverly Hills on September 30, less than two weeks before his death.
A Voice for Disability Awareness
Beyond acting, Mitte became a prominent advocate for disability awareness and inclusion. Drawing on his personal experiences with cerebral palsy, he used his public profile to support greater representation and opportunities for people with disabilities.
He served as an ambassador for United Cerebral Palsy and Shriners Children’s. He also served as president of The Mitte Foundation, which supports philanthropic initiatives and community projects.
Born on August 21, 1992, in Jackson, Mississippi, Mitte built a career that extended beyond his best-known television role, combining acting with advocacy and charitable work.
His death has prompted an outpouring of grief from fans and colleagues. His representatives have asked the public to respect the family’s privacy. Information about survivors and memorial arrangements was not immediately available.
