ISLAMABAD (LAHORE Mirror) — Pakistan on Sunday condemned the reported demolition of a historic mosque in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, describing the action as a serious concern for the protection of Muslim places of worship in India.
In a statement, Foreign Office spokesperson said the demolition of the centuries-old mosque in Saharanpur on September 5 was condemnable.
The spokesperson also referred to the demolition of the Babri Mosque in 1992, saying the episode continues to be viewed as a symbol of religious intolerance, prejudice and hatred.
Pakistan called for an immediate halt to what it described as the desecration and demolition of Muslim places of worship in India.
The Foreign Office further urged the international community to take notice of what it characterised as the systematic persecution of Muslims by Indian authorities.
The statement comes amid continuing tensions over the protection and status of Muslim religious sites in India, with Pakistan regularly raising the issue through diplomatic channels.
