SLAMABAD: Reports claiming that Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari is engaged and preparing to marry have sparked speculation, with unverified claims linking the alleged development to Liechtenstein.
According to the reports, Bilawal’s alleged fiancée is said to be from Vaduz, the capital of the European microstate. The reports further claimed that President Asif Ali Zardari had travelled to Liechtenstein with other family members to discuss arrangements and finalize a date for his son’s wedding.
The reports suggested that the wedding could take place by the end of this year.
However, the claims have been rejected by the PPP, which has described the reports as incorrect and unfounded.
Murtaza Wahab, Mayor of Karachi and spokesperson for PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, addressed the reports on social media on Saturday.
“The news story regarding Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s engagement or wedding is incorrect and unfounded,” Wahab said.
The denial comes amid growing speculation on social media and in some media reports regarding Bilawal’s personal life. No official announcement has been made by Bilawal Bhutto Zardari or his family confirming an engagement or forthcoming marriage.
The reported connection to Liechtenstein has also not been independently confirmed.
Liechtenstein is a small landlocked European state located between Switzerland and Austria. Its capital, Vaduz, serves as the country’s political and administrative centre.
At present, the PPP’s denial remains the only official position from Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s political party regarding the reported engagement and wedding.
Unless Bilawal or his family makes a formal announcement, the claims should therefore be treated as unverified rather than confirmed news.
Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, 37, is the son of former President Asif Ali Zardari and former prime minister Benazir Bhutto. He currently leads the PPP and has remained a prominent figure in Pakistan’s political landscape.
The speculation surrounding his reported marriage has attracted significant public attention, but the PPP’s categorical rejection means that the alleged engagement and wedding plans remain unconfirmed.
