KARACHI (LAHORE MIRROR) — At the International Defence Exhibition and Seminar (IDEAS) 2024, held in Karachi from 19 to 22 November, Pakistan unveiled the AM350S, an indigenously developed long-range 3D AESA radar system.
In an exclusive interview with Senior Anchorperson Farrukh Warraich, Mr Awais Raoof, Director of Blue Surge Private Limited, highlighted the AM350S radar system as a vital addition to Pakistan’s air defence capabilities. The indigenously developed radar, with a range of 350 kilometres, reflects three to four years of dedicated development. Raoof described it as a significant step forward in the nation’s defence technology.

He noted the growing importance of advanced radar systems in modern warfare, citing the role of drones and high-speed missiles in conflicts like the Russia-Ukraine war. “Missile systems and drones are pivotal in both surveillance and devastating attacks, making radar systems indispensable for anticipating enemy threats and monitoring airspace,” he said.

Raoof further stated that Pakistan’s reliance on imported radar systems has been curbed with the introduction of the AM350S, a long-range surveillance radar mounted on a mobile platform for rapid deployment. This move reduces the risk of international sanctions and boosts self-reliance. He added that friendly nations have already expressed interest in the radar, which could contribute significantly to Pakistan’s economy by promoting exports and supporting local engineering and electronics industries.

The AM350S, developed by the National Radio Telecommunication Corporation (NRTC) in collaboration with Blue Surge Pvt Ltd, is expected to enhance Pakistan’s air defence network and provide a robust alternative to foreign systems. Experts believe this marks a step toward building a complete indigenous air defence system for the country.
