NTDC MD Reviews Port Qasim-Matiari Transmission Line, Battery Energy Storage System

LAHORE MIRROR —  National and Transmission Dispatch Company Managing Director NTDC, Engr. Dr. Rana Abdul Jabbar Khan visited the project site of 500 kV K2/K3-Port Qasim-Matiari transmission line in Karachi and reviewed the ongoing progress on the project.

The NTDC engineers and the contractor briefed the Managing Director about the progress of construction work on the project.

It was apprised that the work on 500 kV K2/K3-Port Qasim-Matiari transmission line is being completed on fast-track-basis and till now, 62% progress has been achieved. Concreting of foundations, tower erection and stringing work on the transmission line is being carried out simultaneously. Managing Director NTDC urged to complete the project within the agreed timeline.

This transmission line is being constructed by NTDC to provide a dedicated link to evacuate power from K2/K3 Nuclear Power Plants. The 102 km long double-circuit quad-bundle transmission line will make an interconnection with existing 500 kV Port Qasim-Matiari transmission line.

Later on, MD NTDC visited 220 kV Grid Station Jhimpir and reviewed progress on 20 MW Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project. Project team briefed the Managing Director about the execution work on the project. Managing Director NTDC commended to complete the project within the agreed timeline.

It is pertinent to mention here that NTDC is executing a pilot project of engineering, procurement and construction of 20 MW Battery Energy Storage System at 220/132 kV Jhimpir-1 grid station and, so far, 40 % overall work on this project has been completed. Asian Development Bank is the financing agency for this project.

Earlier, Managing Director NTDC, Engr. Dr. Rana Abdul Jabbar Khan had a detailed meeting in Karachi with the Sector Commander of a Law enforcement agency regarding security of transmission lines including prevention of any sabotage /theft incidents on transmission lines in south region.

MD NTDC discussed various issues with the Sector Commander regarding availability of prompt, timely and effective response by all Law Enforcement Agencies to curb theft of transmission line material.

The Sector Commander assured his all support in this regard and said that all law enforcement agencies will be sensitized and directed afresh in a befitting manner for an all-inclusive and expeditious response to safeguard the national assets of NTDC.
