China’s Team Secures 20 Gold Medals in Asian Championship Opening Rounds
LAHORE MIRROR – The Chinese delegation made an impressive start on the first day of the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, East China’s Zhejiang Province, on Sunday, by securing an astounding 20 gold medals across various sports, including rowing, shooting, wushu, and swimming.
Qiu and Zou expressed their excitement as they rowed past the finish line, proud to see the national flag and hear the anthem. They are already aiming for the top podium at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
Zhang Liang equaled Li Jianxin’s record by winning his fourth Asian Games gold medal in rowing, part of China’s four wins out of five rowing finals on the day. China now boasts 104 all-time Asian Games rowing medals.
The Chinese wushu team captivated the audience with their agility, strength, and grace, securing two gold medals in the men’s Changquan final and women’s Taijiquan and Taijijian all-round.
Sun Peiyuan, despite enduring injuries during preparation, clinched the men’s Changquan title, his third consecutive Asian Games championship.
China showcased its shooting prowess with gold medals in the 10-meter air rifle women’s team event and 10-meter air rifle women’s final, including a new Asian Games record.
The Chinese swim team, featuring champions like Zhang Yufei, Wang Shun, and Pan Zhanle, secured seven gold medals in all seven competitions on the first day.
Zhang set an Asian Games record in the women’s 200 meters butterfly, Wang achieved a new Asian record in the men’s 200 meters individual medley, and Pan became the first swimmer in Asia to break the 47-second barrier in the men’s 100 meters freestyle.
Li Bingjie and Tang Qianting also set new Asian Games records in their events, and Xu Jiayu added another gold with a new Asian Games record.
The night concluded with the Chinese women’s swimming quartet winning the women’s 4×100 meters freestyle relay with an Asian Games record.
The Hangzhou Asian Games’s Modern Pentathlon competitions ended with the Chinese team collecting gold medals in the women’s individual and women’s team finals.
As the Hangzhou Asian Games continue, all eyes are on the Chinese delegation as they aim to maintain their dominance and add to their impressive medal tally.
