LAHORE MIRROR — Pakistan Railways (PR) has recently implemented a cost-saving measure by prohibiting officers up to grade 18 from using air conditioning (AC) in their offices, as confirmed in an official notification issued by the Railway Electrical Department.
This decision has been prompted by the ongoing economic challenges and power crises in the country.
As part of an inter-organizational austerity initiative, PR officers up to grade 18 are now restricted from operating ACs within workshops, railway factories, and other office spaces. It’s worth noting that the ban on AC usage in railway officers’ offices, spanning all pay scales, from 8-11 AM, was already in effect.
Sources within the railway department have indicated that the organisation is grappling with financial losses, and various measures are being implemented to curtail expenses.
It was also reported that there are concerns about a potential increase in ticket prices due to the devaluation of the currency and the surge in international oil prices.
Reports further suggest that prices of petrol and high-speed diesel (HSD) could witness an increase of Rs. 10-14 and Rs. 14-16 per liter, respectively, on September 15, based on tax rates and import parity prices. Kerosene prices are also expected to rise by Rs. 10. Consequently, this could lead to higher fare rates and service charges for transport companies, including PR.
