LAHORE MIRROR — An Islamabad court on Saturday once again issued non-bailable arrest warrants issued for the wife of the late journalist Arshad Sharif due to her repeated failure to provide a statement as ordered by the court.

Judicial Magistrate Abbas Shah presided over the hearing for the Arshad Sharif murder case, during which Samia Arshad, Arshad’s wife, did not appear to record her statement. Consequently, the court took the step of reissuing non-bailable arrest warrants for both Arshad’s wife and TV producer Ali Usman.

The court had been summoning Arshad Sharif’s wife and producer Ali Usman on multiple occasions to record their statements, yet they consistently failed to comply. The initial issuance of non-bailable arrest warrants took place on June 19, 2023.

Arshad Sharif tragically lost his life in Kenya in October of the previous year. Initially, the police had characterized his killing as a case of ‘mistaken identity.’ However, suspicions and demands for an investigation within Pakistan intensified following claims that Arshad had left the country due to concerns for his safety. Responding to mounting public pressure, the Supreme Court of Pakistan took suo motu notice of the case and established a joint investigation team, which even conducted an inquiry in Kenya to gather information. Regrettably, there has been no discernible progress in this case to date.
